Hey everyone! I recently finished reading “Piranesi” by Susanna Clarke and I have to say, it was quite the journey. Initially, I was a bit hesitant because the book seemed like a puzzle that was hard to get into. But once I got past the first few pages, I was drawn into this immense, labyrinthine house filled with endless halls and statues.
The setting is not just a backdrop; it’s a character in itself. Piranesi, the protagonist, navigates this world with such wonder and reverence that it’s hard not to get pulled in. The narrative starts off disorienting – you’re not really sure who Piranesi is or why he’s in this house. But as the story unfolds, so does the mystery of the house and its inhabitants.
What I found strange at first became the most interesting aspect of the book. Clarke’s gradual revelation of the plot and the truth behind Piranesi’s world is cleverly done and keeps you hooked.
In the end, “Piranesi” turned out to be a rewarding read. It’s a mix of mystery and fantasy set in a unique world, and it definitely requires some patience. But for those who stick with it, it offers an engaging story with a satisfying conclusion. I gave it a solid 4 stars and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good blend of mystery and fantasy.
Has anyone else read it? What were your thoughts?
