It was my first time reading James Baldwin and the prose was beautiful. For a fiction story it was brutal to say the least, especially from Giovanni’s perspective.
I have read memoirs of people in search of their lost ones e.g. Hisham Matar and the search for his father which is non-fiction and that level of heartbreak is different because it has reality attached to it but I never thought fiction genre would have words that would replicate such emotions.
