I’m about 60 pages into this book and while I agree the prose is beautiful, I find it extremely slow. I read one chapter a day before going to bed and it really lulls me to sleep. Im saddened to say that it’s really affected my reading groove/momentum since it’s such a slow novel.

For those who’ve read it, does the book become more interesting/insightful later on?

I absolutely hate not finishing books, so I’ll push myself through this one- but I’ve heard such wonderful things about it and am confused as to what I’m missing.

Side note- I love Ireland, but despite my passion for that beautiful country I get quite bored reading about the little Irish town in Williams’ book.

I haven’t read this book and wish I could offer something of more substance. Nevertheless, my thought from an outside perspective is if a book exhausts your mood to such an extent and for so prolonged a period as a chapter a day, it must be in the best interest of your happiness to acknowledge the book as incompatible with your situation or tastes and pick up another that you may well appreciate. There are wonderful books enough that putting away one that doesn’t speak to you is ultimately no great loss.
