I want anyone’s opinion and/or review on this book i just finished, The Setting Sun by Osamu Dazai. Im writing a personal short analysis on it and want to include public thoughts! Any criticism, positives, negatives, are all welcome. Credit will definitely be given if needed, you can use a nickname, pen name, etc.
Personally, I really enjoyed the book. It’s short but still holds meanings that would take a lot more explaining. Throughout it I always wondered why the main character went through what they did or why they did what they did, but overtime it got easier to understand as it progressed. There are so many symbols that stayed in place to the very end like the bad omen about the snakes. I’ve read a lot of books that are all over the place, switching between perspectives and problems, but this one sticks to Kazuko, the main character. I got so immersed in it which I enjoy because it gets me more involved, like I’m actually there experiencing what the author wrote. The fact that it keeps some of the real world aspects into the story is amazing considering it’s after WW2. The only criticism I would mention is no backstory on how their lives were before when they were aristocrats. I feel like that would’ve given more context as the story progressed on how they survived in the countryside when they weren’t rich anymore. But overall it was definitely one of the most philosophical books I’ve read that I would give a 10/10!
