Hi, I have a friend who runs a small business. They pass on small projects and only go for large or seemingly prestigious accounts. They wonder why they aren’t growing.
I recently heard an analogy about shooting baskets against Michael Jordan. Michael can shoot three point shots all day long. The prestigious shots. I could stand under the baseket and basically do layups over and over again. Who is going to score more? I am, because I am getting easy points.
My point is that there is value in unglamerous easy jobs which should form the foundation of a good business. Take the bigs shots when you can but don’t ignore the small things.
Any business books out there that make this point?
