    Hi all!

I’m looking for an audiobook (or five) to gift my best mate, who is ~~ABANDONING ME FOR A YEAR~~ taking a midlife gap year and travelling the world solo. She’s travelling super-light, hence the need for it to be an audiobook.

She’s uncharacteristically nervous about it – she’s in her mid-40s and a social worker, so has basically been working her bollocks off for 20 years, living in the same place with her partner of 20 years, etc. So something inspirational about solo female travel, taking a midlife gap year, escaping the rat race, living more simply, etc., would be amazing – but nothing too self-helpy, please: we’re British (Welsh, specifically: even less amenable to gushing!).

    What else…

    * She’s really into outdoorsy stuff – surfing, running, cycling – she’s taking her bike with her, ffs (imagine prioritising a BIKE over BOOKS?!).
    * She’s also interested in history
    * She’s not particularly literary; she’d rather substance/story over style (struggled to type that sentence tbh – how are we even friends?!)
    * She’s going to Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, South America
    * She’s a fairly Classical Lesbian (practical, outdoorsy, sporty, feministy, etc!). A lot of the books I’m seeing are about straight women who go travelling to get over a man, or who have a panic attack because they can’t find a plug adapter for their hair straighteners, or whatever. Nothing like that, please! Nothing with a pink swirly cover, iykwim…

So far, my shortlist consists of:

    * *Tales of a Female Nomad: Living At Large in the World*
    * *SOLO: What running across mountains taught me about life*
    * *A Simpler Life: a guide to greater serenity, ease, and clarity*

But it doesn’t HAVE to be about travel – or nonfiction – just a banging, inspirational read/listen!

    Any ideas?!

    Thanks in advance!!
