I’m not a voracious reader, I go through phases of reading. I would like to be someone who devours books regularly, I have a strong urge to increase my vocabulary and knowledge overall. But I struggle to do this because of having mild dyslexia and ADHD, which causes me to be a slow paced reader. Sometimes it takes me so long to read a book that I get disheartened and lose interest.

The questions I would like to ask are as follows:

    1. Have you any recommendations on how someone with dyslexia might increase their reading speed?

    2. New words or words I have never come across before, or just don’t fully understand. How do I commit these to memory so they can become part of my vocabulary going forward?

I normally stop and google the definition of any word I don’t understand. But I will soon after, just forget the word and its meaning. I’ve recently started writing the words down along with the meaning, in a notebook. But this makes the reading process even slower. If I ignore words I’m not familiar with I will read faster but with less understanding of the material and no increase to my vocab. I would be very interested to know how others operate in this situation. And I would be delighted to get some advice and suggestions as to how I could improve on these two aspects I’ve mentioned.

    Thank you!
