I’m not talking about authors writing about bilingual communities/countries who know what they are doing.
I’m talking about the English speakers authors (both traditionally and self-published) who decide that their French/Italian/German/Russian whatever else character must from time to time say something in their native language. Unfortunately, the author doesn’t know a word of the language in question, use Google Translate (or something similar) and if I have the misfortune of knowing the language, it’s a mess of spelling mistakes, terrible grammar, and gross mistranslations.
Why? Why?
I hate it.
