I taught the same classics in rotation 20 yrs ago and then took a long break from teaching. Now I’m back at it and I have creative freedom of what I teach. I want the shared experience of a well-known book, but I have at least two students who have been victims of sexual assault so I want to steer clear of anything sexual in nature. I don’t think a classic romance is their jam either. I’m looking for something thought provoking (good discussions), but not too slow. I’ve been searching and haven’t landed anywhere yet. Ones I like, but the sex parts eliminate them: The Color Purple, Joy Luck Club, Brave New World, 1984, Dracula, East of Eden
