Just finished reading the First Law and Age of Madness Trilogies (as well as the standalones) by Joe Abercrombie and loved the series. Really enjoyed the darker tonne in general but also how character focused it was.
In the past I have read a number of Cosmere books and enjoyed them too, but felt they lacked that political element I really enjoy. Tried reading wheel of time but got too book three and didn’t like any of the characters. I enjoyed the political manuevering of the Aes Sedai, but the rest I wasn’t overall that interested in (especially not the vague magic system).
All in all, I’m looking for a darker tonne of book, probably quite character focused, with strong political intrigue as a primary plotline. Doesn’t necessarily need to be fantasy, I am happy to branch out into other areas too, fantasy just so happens to be what I usually read.
I do listen my books as Audiobooks just as an aside.
