As the title suggests, my partner is a person who has been through a lot. I don’t want to simplify or explain any of her story, but in her journey, she’s making big changes to her life and I would love to get her something to read while she goes through some of the heavier healing she is working so hard to go through.
I love her so much, and I want to give her something she can read again, and use it as a reminder of the progress and or help her with her current journey to healing. We know this will never be a thing that can be “fixed” but I want to know that she feels recognized in a way that matters. I want to help her but I’m not a psychologist, a counselor or any professional. I’m just a loving guy who wants the best for her at any cost.
She has read Jennette McCurdy’s “I’m Glad My Mom Died” and Bessel van der Kolk’s “The Body Keeps the Score”. She isn’t much of a fan of fiction, and she loves powerful and raw emotional stories that are as compelling as they are relatable to her in many ways.
She reads for the story, the knowledge, wisdom, she is the type that if she reads something and is not sure what it means or what study it is from she will spend hours reading research papers and studies and articles until she can form her own collective opinion and I adore her for how much she loves to learn, it rubs off on my son, and her nieces and nephew as they’re always asking us questions as kids do, and we love to have deep conversations on our Sunday mornings just waking up, coffee and a cozy bed and start our morning on something we heard the week before and we just break it down to facts and argue points and counterpoints.
I have without a doubt nailed her Christmas down this year and it means more to her this year than ever. I want to knock it out of the park, and I would like to find something from you all.
Reddit, I am asking for a small holiday miracle. I will take the suggestions and based on upvotes of the commented suggestions and discussion in the comments to decide, I will photograph my purchase and i will sign it from Reddit and credit all who comment (as best as I can its soon coming to Christmas and I want to make it special.)
Thank you Reddit, and to all a safe and happy and from my heart to yours, a wonderful Holiday season. 🖤
