Looking for suggestions for my upcoming roadtrip
– around 6ish hours long (I usually listen at 1.5 speed and would like to be finished or almost finished at the end of the drive)
– driving through the night, so need something that is going to be engaging and medium-fast pace to keep me awake
– According to StoryGraph I like dark, emotional, reflective, and mysterious books
– I’ll take non-fiction suggestions, but I’m partial to fiction as I’m much pickier about non-fiction in general and looking for something to hook me ( for non-fiction though I really liked We Were Once a Family)
– I don’t mind triggering content, but I don’t like long drawn out graphic descriptions
– my top genres are: YA, contemporary, literary, historical, thriller, and mystery. I do not like romance. Prefer low fantasy to high fantasy
– my favorite author is Octavia Butler (favorite book is Parable of the Sower)
– most read authors this year: Mildred D. Taylor, Octavia Butler, Shari Lapena, Jodi Picoult, Nic Stone, and Tiffany D. Jackson
– I’ve been in a rut and my usually go to in a rut are a thriller or YA, but I’m trying to expand that a little
– I’m suspicious of books with a lot of hype/”classics”, so if you suggest one, convince me it isn’t overrated!
