I’ve read a lot review saying the writing is great, while I’m not saying i disagree, i also think that it’s making me confused a lot of time and at this point I am even wondering if it was intentional.
I have to say that at first, that English is not my first language and i had just started reading early this year, already finished about 30+ books at this point. However i do think that my problem came to his style of story-telling.
There’s two things;
One, he frequently switch povs within a chapter, and it just come out of nowhere in a paragaph. For example, You are currently in the head of character X, X saw character Y, then you are suddenly in Y’s pov. I often got confused which head I’m in right now. There’s a lot of ‘he’, and sometimes I am at lost which ‘he’ is he referring to.
Two, the character are often having a flashback “X recalls that one time when he is in…”. Then he drones a little, then within the flashback, there another flashback, then later on suddenly in a paragraph, it’s back in current time. And i am like “Wait a minute, where am I?”.
I’m wondering is this normal? Is the author messing with me (lol)? Has anyone every read something like this? I think the story is quite enticing regardless how bleak it is.
