American Beauty is a twisted movie about suburban life and personal rebellion and its consequences. It’s a dark comedy, it has great dialogue, and it follows the lives and secrets of a couple of people in a neighborhood. I find it artistic and philosophical. Are there books that are similar in vibe to it? Anything that has a humorous, philosophical, and artistic style? Exploring personal rebellion would be a plus.
I’ve read and enjoyed Fight Club, and I’ve seen but haven’t read The Virgin Suicides.
