Goodreads (like Amazon proper) gets plenty of grief about unreliable reviews. I look at them sometimes but of course take them with a shaker full of grains of salt.
I don’t really have any consistently reliable review sources. What are yours? are they specific reviewers, whole websites/newspapers/magazines, or both?
And does anybody aggregate reviews in a meaningful way, in your opinion? When it comes to music and movies it’s far easier to get an idea about a movie from things like Metacritic and Rotten Tomatoes. They’re not perfect sources of information, but you *can* glean something from those scores. I suppose I do something similar with Goodreads scores, but depending on the size of the audience, genre, and other particulars, scores between 3.5 and 4.5 can be absolute trash or masterpieces!
