I will say that for a book that’s 1300 pages, it is written in a way that keeps you engaged and wanting to read more. The characters are rich with personality and easily distinguishable based on their traits. Plus Blackthornes whole journey is very interesting… to a point.
Which brings me to my issues with the book. On the whole I just felt like it was incomplete. After I finished it, I couldn’t really recall anything about it that wowed me. The whole book seemed like it was told to me more Matter of Fact than in a narrative sense. It felt like the characters told me everything that was going to happen and then it happened and then they moved on to the next scene. I was waiting for a giant battle that never happens.
Idk, I just feel like a book that’s 1300 pages should be more than “ok” to me. I also felt like it could’ve been trimmed down tremendously.
Anybody else felt a little underwhelmed with Shogun?
