For as long as I can remember I’ve had a weird fascination with motels. This rolls over into literature, and I absolutely love reading novels that are set, predominantly, in roadside motels. I love reading about down-and-out protagonists and seedy characters that find themselves either living, hiding, or just existing in roadside motels.

The genre doesn’t have to be specific, for instance; I loved both Willy Vlautin’s ‘The Motel Life’ and Dean Koontz’s ‘Strangers’. Charles Bukowski’s Henry Chinaski books and Nic Pizzolatto’s ‘Galveston’ – essentially anything that is largely set in or around roadside motels.

A peculiar request, I know, but I’ve seen this group come together and put forward some fantastic suggestions, so I’d love to hear people’s recommendations.
