    Hello all!

My husband’s Christmas gift to me is the trend of allowing me to peruse the bookshelves at a shop for 5-10 mins and then giving me 90 sec to pick any books I want. Great idea, since I never buy books for myself.

Only problem is, with 2 young kids and a third on the way, I have ZERO idea what’s current right now. So I thought you guys could help me out by giving a few suggestions of where to start.

I am trying to read lots of different genres, so there’s no specific cut off for that, but I don’t enjoy books like ACOTAR or really cheesey romances with common tropes. I don’t really like most stereotypical YA that much either, though I’ve made exceptions. And no vampires or werewolves or any of that stuff. Magic/wizardry is OK as long as its somewhat logical.

It needs to be well written with a good plot to keep my attention. My degree is in creative writing, so I think I may be pickier than others.

I am currently reading Girls Burn Brighter by Shobha Rao and really enjoying it.

I’ve also really enjoyed the Scythe series by Neal Shusterman, the 6 of Crows series by Leigh Bardugo, and I’m a big fan of Fitzgerald.

Help an out of touch Mom out!

    Thanks!!!
