i’ve been reading some nonfiction that deals with weighty subjects recently, and i’ve wanted to maintain that tone in my fiction reading as well. i’m almost done with Tender is the Flesh, and i enjoy it alright, but the narrator’s lack of introspection about his actions keeps me from loving it.
do you have any recommendations for fiction books that cover somewhat believable (i.e. nothing in the high fantasy or magical genres) moral evils with a protagonist who, even if they aren’t a hero, is well rounded and likable?
genres that are of interest: mundane science fiction, dying earth, psychological, etc etc
