I’m looking for some recommendations for gentle books that are positive and not too stressful please!
These can be teen/YA, children’s or adults!
Ideally not too emotional but light things with good stories and characters you care about.
Books I’ve liked:
Meg Cabot books – especially Avalon High and The Mediator series
The Chrestomanci series by Diana Wynne Jones
The Mysterious Benedict Society
Sophie Kinsella books
Jane Green books
There are way more but don’t want to list endlessly!
Thanks so much in advance!

If you like Sophie Kinsella, try Bridget Jones.
Jenny Colgan has nice comforting books, like The Book Shop on the Corner.

If you like Meg Cabot then I assume you’ve read her series Missing/1 800 where r u. Pretty much all of her YA fit what you want and also maybe her Adult series The Heather Wells Mystery.
Adrian Mole series by Sue Townsend (starts YA ends up adult, the diary of Adrian Mole from age 13 to around 40)
The Woman who went to Bed for a Year by Sue Townsend (Adult
My Awesome/Awful Popularity Plan by Seth Rudetsky (YA funny gay high school romance)
Girls in Love series by Jacqueline Wilson (YA funny Romance young teen girls first experience with love and relationships)
The Education of Anna Kendrick by Elieen Cook (YA romance)
Alex & Eliza by Melissa de la Cruz (YA romance historical)
Georgia Nicolson series by Louise Rennison (YA romance funny, Diary of a young teen girl)
Magic in Manhatten series by Sarah Mlynowski (YA, funny magic romance)
Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine (fantasy)
The Borrowers series by Mary Norton (children’s fantasy adventure)
These are a little bit darker but not much more then The Mediator series
Prep School Confidential by Kara Thomas (YA murder mystery)
Gallagher Girls series by Ally Carter (YA mystery teen spy, romance)
The Selection Series by Keira Cass (YA dystopian romance)
Have you read ANGUS, THONGS, AND FULL FRONTAL SNOGGING by Louise Rennison? There’s a series of a few more books too if you like it. Absolutely hilarious and I think comparable in voice to some of Meg Cabot’s books.
I also love THE BEST LAID PLANS by Cameron Lund. Comparable to Cabot as well.
*A Psalm for the Wild-Built* by Becky Chambers is the definition of gentle. A lovely book set in a hopeful future world about finding out what you need, taking care of yourself and each other, and the power of a hot cup of tea.
Albert Payson Terhune, James Herriot, and Walter Farley are great authors.
