I’m not a fan of horror, usually. But I really like “Alice isn’t Dead” by Joseph Fink (one of the “Welcome to Nightvale” creators). I read it because I was pleasantly surprised by the podcast of the same name. It’s creepy, but not gory, and the suspenseful mystery got me (even though I knew the story through the podcast!). His writing style is simple and fun.

I’m not normally into romantasy, but I got an ARC copy of Unbound by Christy Healy, and really, really enjoyed it. I initially requested it because it was listed under horror- and as I read it didn’t really strike me as horror, but I still couldn’t put it down. I usually avoid romance, but I thought it felt really unique (it subverted pretty much every preconceived notion I had) and was a great, deep look into the two main characters and their relationship.
