Hey guys! I’ve wanted to get into reading for the longest time, but I don’t know where to start. I am an avid lover of art and music. I used to also hate watching movies, but I figured out that I just had to find the right movies and I love movies now. I assume that’s the same case for books. Growing up, I read through a couple books like the first Harry Potter, and I enjoyed it, but it also wasn’t my favorite experience reading through it if that makes sense. I couldn’t finish the second book or The Hunger Games or any other books because I felt like it took too long. But my attention span has grown so much and I’m ready to give reading a try!!

I’m down for any recommendations. I did however, love reading Roald Dahl’s books growing up so much.

As I said; I love music in general, indie music, and art. My favorite bands are The 1975, Tyler the Creator, Twenty One Pilots, Brockhampton, Kendrick, Vampire Weekend, 100 Gecs, Porter Robinson, Black Country New Road, Charli XCX

My favorite movies are like Wes Anderson’s movies, Scott Pilgrim, Knives Out, The Truman Show, EEAAO, Hereditary, etc.

Lastly, I want to add that getting literature excites me, because I’m an artist myself, and I love indulging in other people’s perspectives and the way I reflect on it in my own art. I love stuff that inspires me so I’m also not opposed to self help books as I could use the help in my art. I want to get into some of my favorite artist’s books and authors like Joan Didion and Rimbaud, or classics like Vonnegut and George Orwell, or even Shakespeare, but I don’t know if that’s the best place to start as my attention span can be bad.

    Thanks so much guys! 🙂

The Truman Show is my favorite movie! I feel like you might like Exhalation by Ted Chiang and I, Robot by Isaac Asimov. They’re collections of short stories which might be an advantage if you’re working towards a stronger attention span. You might also like The Memory Police by Yoko Ogawa, and The Broom of the System by David Foster Wallace. Good luck finding something you enjoy!
