i read animal farm when i was 14 (and liked it just fine) and now that im 17 ive just started reading 1984, but i just find the criticism so predictable in the sense that. he is just a conservative-leaning white guy. ive counted 2 racist comments just seven pages into the book. ive also read he was homophobic and sexist. so why is his work considered to be revolutionary and groundbreaking? just for spitting at communist regimes?

edit: i can see the word conservative has baffled a lot of people, and now i can see why. i wanted to express that, for many high school students such as myself who have not had a lot of direct contact with his work he is often regarded as a disruptor of oppressive regimes and a voice for the silenced of sorts, and i was just confused at, very reasonably, encountering elements i would nowadays consider offensive. popular also wasnt a very wise term but you got my point already. i think my mistake has been just giving up on the book upon finding something i disliked instead of trying to understand where it came from and its relevance in the story or, at least, in its historical context. peace out
