Hot Take?
I find chapters that start with little blurbs from journals, memos, quotes, poems really irritating. Just start the chapter already. It’s like the book was finished and some editor said it would be cool to completely distract the reader at the start of every chapter with some impossible to decipher text that doesn’t advance the story at all. I usually just skip them. Seems a more common style choice of late.
