Thought I’d give the whole series a go. I’d read the first one years ago, and never picked up the rest. So Ive finished Flowers, and Petals and Thorns, and now I’m on Seeds. The first two are great, particularly the second one which was just incredibly compulsive reading, much like watching a very over dramatic soap opera. Cathy… That girl pirouettes from disaster to disaster and poor life choice to poor life choice, and every single man in her life is basically a predator. We already knew Chris was a creepy rapey SOB, but the good doctor too??? Why, she’s 16 man! Julian is a violent asshole, who probably did the world a favour when he took himself for a long sleep, and dear old step daddy, the classic, wants his cake and wants to eat it too. By book 4, I feel she’s really learnt nothing and t be honest she’s quite a terrible parent, she panders to Jory, refuses to stand up to Bart, and god, as for Cindy… Cindy comes to her at 16 and says she wants to have all the sex with all the boys, and her mother doesn’t think ‘christ, we need a discussion about safety, self esteem and consent’ she’s amused and tells her north to be a whore because boys talk. I just can’t even… but I persevere because the drama is too much. It kind of reminds me of Justine… in the sense that every person she meets is awful, and you just want to scream at her to stop talking to people.
