I’ve been digging this book lately and I find it wonderful. Decided to share some of the notes I took here so you guys can enjoy it as well, and maybe give it a go! Here they are:
\- The beauty of a landscape has no owner, so anyone can find solace in its contemplation.
\- Those who have many possessions bring many worries, while the dispossessed suffer countless hardships.
\- The one who obeys the rules of this world suffers accordingly, but the one who does not is seen as a madman.
\- Knowing myself and understanding the transient nature of the world, I desire nothing beyond my reach and I am not troubled by what I do not have.
\- It is true that when I go to the capital, I am ashamed to have to beg, but when I return here again, I feel pity for all those who are still slaves to earthly things.
\- The Buddha’s teaching essentially consists of detachment from things. In my case, it would be a mistake to cling to my hut. Even attachment to my calm solitude would be an obstacle to my liberation.
\- I noticed that among couples who loved each other to the point of not being able to separate, the one whose love was deeper always died first. The reason is simple: the one who forgot about himself offered the meager meals he had to the beloved.
