(My post on a different forum was deleted for being off-topic.)

I have liked songs by Britney Spears, but I wouldn’t call myself a fan. I am not that into musical artists. I heard about her conservatorship and saw some clips of it. I had no interest in reading her book until I received a strong recommendation.

**It is a great book. Please read it.** It is not long, and it doesn’t belabor any points.

I am almost as old as Britney Spears. I remember seeing or hearing about a lot of what is described in the book. I am also ashamed by how I remember myself reacting.

Britney Spears is gentle and kind to the reader.

At some point, it felt like she name dropped a lot. It made me suspicious, but ***why*** would it make me suspicious? She is more famous than anyone she name drops. She is consistent in using names throughout the book. If she didn’t use names, we would figure out the famous people anyway.

Throughout the book, she admits to her wrongs and failings, but a part of me wondered if there was more. I would like to hope that I would be skeptical of any autobiography I read, but I don’t know if I would. She gently points out how, **IF** she was doing hard drugs or breaking the law, the public would have known about it. She was not and is not known for being discrete, and she was hounded by the paparazzi.

I think one of the hardest things, when you’re against bigotry/sexism/racism, is realizing that victims do not have to be perfect to deserve defending. Even when you know that, you can miss it. There’s a cultural tide moving you, and you don’t always see it.

I think it is better if you are around her age (30\~50). It felt so impactful to me because I could remember how big a deal some of these events were. I could remember how it was portrayed and how I felt.

**”The Woman in Me” is a great book. Please read it.** You can probably check it out of a local library or listen to the audiobook if you library has a program. There may be a waitlist, but it probably won’t take as long as it says. My wife listened to it, and I listened to it, and we still returned it a week early.

**Edit3:** If you have Spotify Premium, you can listen to it for **FREE.** (Thank you /u/Medical_Cup_5972)
