So I’ve challenged myself to read as many books from the “disturbing books iceberg” as possible. Why? Because why not.
And this one. Hoo boy, this one.
I never got to read this for school. And I wish I had! I loved this book. I’m still thinking about it.
Any other author would’ve made this book about 400 pages. But not Orwell. He was concise and to the point. I love that in an author.
I found myself getting slowly more and more horrified as each commandment got altered. And watching Napoleon’s rise to power was something else.
I won’t go into all the allegories, because then I’ll be here for hours. But do I see certain political leaders within Napoleon? Yes. I won’t say which ones, but I think you know.
What happened to Boxer left me devastated. He was so inspirational with his work ethic, and he didn’t deserve his fate.
However, I felt even worse for the puppies that Napoleon turned into his personal soldiers. They never had a chance.
The worst thing is that because of the education program for the pigs, the regime will continue even after Napoleon’s death. How heartbreaking.
Overall, I thought this novel was poignant. My favourite of the disturbing books iceberg so far. I highly recommend it to anyone.
