I’ve just re-read it and it is still amazing.
I have only one question about the end. I hope someome reads this and has the answer.
Last chapter (I don’t know exactly the page because I read it in Kindle) says:
“Philosopher William decreed that his consciousness program would be built upon two rules that could never be overridden. No orang would ever deliberately harm another self-conscious being, and no orang would ever desire replication for replication’s sake.”
And then we understand that Anax is the mutant of the Idea emerging so she must be killed. And so any other mutation.
But my question is: if one of the rules is no replication, then how do orangs with possible mutation exist? They cannot be born, and the Academy does not make mistakes so they kill every one with the mutation. Are they still in the process of killing? They should be done by now considering there is no new born so the people are counted exactly and the work of the Academy is so precise.
Any ideas?
