I am a college student, and in one of my English classes I had to read Spring by Ali Smith. This book is probably one of the worst books I’ve ever read. I really do not know why this book gets such excellent reviews. Maybe there is a disconnect because I haven’t read the others in the series, but I’m just wondering if anyone else has had this experience.

The plot is kind of weak, like stuff happens, but nothing that exciting happens to motivate anyone to continue reading. If I didn’t have to read it for school I would not have finished it, I probably would’ve put it down after the first part. I don’t understand what the point she is trying to make is, and it almost just seems like she’s rambling on about lemons and mountains and clouds for 300 pages. The political currency attached to the novel could be interesting but she utilizes it poorly. Again, I feel like she’s rambling on about mountains and clouds and then she remembers she’s supposed to be talking about Brexit and then she’ll throw something in about Brexit and go back to the mountains and clouds.

If you enjoyed this book I’m honestly impressed and I would like to shake your hand.
