I picked up this book because of the description and that it was nominated for Goodreads Choice award in Best Fiction alongside books i enjoyed.
What. Was. That.
I speedread the last third because i knew how it would end, but it was such a mess. It was completely unrealistic (you’re adopting a random kid? As his teacher???) and the main reason i thought i would enjoy it, the author on an island and the riddles, was so weak. The main character was basically beige and dull (i cant name one characteristic) and her issues were all solved in a snap. There was no journey, no change, nothing. Just a weird romance with a dude who is ten years her senior and ‘soooo tortured’. I enjoy a good silly quick romance now and then, like ‘legends and lattes’ or ‘the house in the cerulean sea’ but… whoa.
I looked at some reviews and they were all raving? WHY? What am i missing?
