It can be about any dictatorship whether it be fictional or non-fictional.
I’m from the Philippines and that country itself has been under a notorious dictatorship with lots of novels about the subject.
I’m recommending Ninotchka Rosca’s State of War and Twice Blessed although if Lualhati Bautista’s Dekada ‘70 (The ‘70s) had an English translation for an international readership (that one’s in Tagalog), I’d recommend that as well since that one’s a contemporary classic where I come from.
