Hey readers, I want to read romantic books but every time I start one it ended up to be cringy such as (haters to lovers) no hate for anyone who read these books but it’s not my cup of tea honestly.
Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro – Sci-fi dystopian tragic romance, and a great book.

Here are some of my 5-star romantic books I’ve found over the years.
All Rhodes Lead Here by Mariana Zapata. (very sweet slow burn with hiking)
The Wall of Winnipeg and Me by Mariana Zapata.(another very sweet slow burn with sport)
So That Happened by Katie Bailey ( lighthearted fast-paced rom com )
Sweet Talk by Cara Bastone (5 hour audiobook from audible plus catalog, extremely funny and cute. I spent 3 hours staring at my ceiling not moving listening to it)
These Broken Stars by Amie Kaufman (“prejudice to love on a deserted planet”)
The End of Eternity. Isaac Asimov. (Great classical sci-fi with romantic subplot )
Letters to the Lost by Brigid Kemmerer ( teenagers deal with real traumas while anonymously exchanging letters on a tombstone and starting to care about each other)

Tress of the Emerald Sea…. main character goes off to save her boyfriend. She is also into cups so it might be your cup of tea.

I recently bought Emily wildes encyclopedia of fairies book and it is romance but also the main character goes out and does their own thing and has their own adventure and the love interest does not do any of the cringy things. The love interest does not make their problems I’ll go away, the love interest it doesn’t make the protagonist into a different person, and a love interest doesn’t solve the mystery by using the equipment that is inside his pants.
What I liked about this the most is that it feels like academia and that you are helping the narrator write a book, then it’s sort of a book within a book. I love that. I love books.

Kristin Hannah’s The Great Alone, the focus is not romance, but there’s a romance subplot. Also Yerba Buena, Alone with You in the Ether, and Call Me by Your Name

Ugh, I totally agree, there are so many cringy romance novels out there. Two of my favorites of all time, though, are *Those Who Wait* by Haley Cass and *Book Lovers* by Emily Henry. I think they both work really well because the characters have their own full personalities besides their interest in the other person.
