I love books about animals with a philosophical take. They’re often part memoir, part educational or behavioral non-fiction, but not always. My favorite aspect is that they try to come to terms with what it means to be human while also teaching the reader about the inner workings and complexities of various animals.
Some examples of books I’ve enjoyed:
Bones Would Rain from the Sky by Suzanne Clothier, Shadow Mountain by Renee Askins, Bonobo Handshake by Vanessa Woods, Animals Make Us Human by Temple Grandin, and The Soul of an Octopus by Sy Montgomery.
Does anyone have any suggestions in that vein? And bonus question, what is that genre called?
