I’m looking for ‘soft’ subtle SF books where some supernatural disruption happens to the people in a small town (or a big city) and the book is all about how the characters are affected by it and try to survive it/carry on with their lives.

    * Moon of the Crusted Snow. I unfortunately wasn’t very keen on this, but I do want similar stories.

    * Severance by Ling Ma – again, the book itself didn’t do it for me, but something along those lines.

    * A Cage of Butterflies by Brian Caswell or the Tomorrow series by John Marsden are good examples of the kind of tone I’m after. “We woke up and these things happened”, very dry and factual. I don’t want *Train to Busan*-style carnage or *1984*-style dystopias, I want “lone survivors band together” type of books.

Sorry if this is a horrible explanation and thank you!

ETA: I should clarify that I would prefer something set on Earth, please!
