My son is 10 and our priorly unified household had a tradition of reading “Red Rider Came Calling” by Berkeley Breathed every Christmas Eve since he was 2.

Now we will be starting some new Christmas traditions, just him and me on alternating years, visiting with my parents. I’m looking for suggestions for a new Christmas Eve readaloud for us.

Needs to be in the 10-25 minutes range (for a complete out-loud read), funny, and uplifting. Christmas or Yule related. “Red Rider Came Calling” is a fine example; we need our own new tradition.

Terry Pratchett is a good example of the kind of humor + uplifting we dig, but “Where’s My Cow” isn’t Christmassy and Hogfather is a full-length novel. (Though if there were a chapter that worked as a standalone I’d consider that.) Aside from the chapter thought there I don’t expect to find what I’m looking for in Pratchett.
