I have a criteria that I haven’t been able to explicitly define for myself. They don’t need to be explicitly holiday themed or take place during winter (though they certainly can). I read a Dickens novel around the holidays for the past few years, which I loved. I’ve also re-read Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell a couple of times during this season. Some similarities there, I know, but does not have to be a long book set or written in pre-20th century England. Franzen’s Crossroads works for me as well. In that case, a beautifully written family chronicle, a big section of which does take place in the run-up to Christmas. I guess maybe the criteria is a big, involving book that has some je ne sais quois element that makes it feel holiday appropriate.

TL;DR: Do you have certain books or certain kinds of books you like to read around the holidays?
