Looking for a book that can set up a movie or tv show where the book serves as a prequel and the movie is a sequel or the tv show is a spin off.

(Not looking for a book adapted to screen, i.e. Mystic River)

Does anyone know of such a book that can set up this type of content consumption experience?

    Interested in adventure or crime.

*Black Dahlia Avenger* is a fascinating nonfiction true crime read that pairs well with both the James Elroy novel *The Black Dahlia* and its (so-so) movie adaptation.

    2. Probably not what you’re interested in, but in case you’re a fan of bad-lit, “Modelland” by Tyra Banks pairs well with “America’s Next Top Model”, especially the later seasons where Tyra was less contained.

EDIT- more serious, the movie “Princess Kaulani” pairs well with “Hawaii’s Story by Hawaii’s Queen” by Liliuokalani.

EDIT 2- “Contact” pairs well with “The Dark Beyond the Stars” by Frank M. Robinson, both area about the hopeless search for extraterrestrial life, and what that means for humanity. But they make totally inverse decisions at every turn. “Contact” is about being earth-bound, “The Dark Beyond the Stars” is about leaving. “Contact” is hopeful “Dark” is grim.

EDIT 3- Sorry, this is just fun and I keep thinking up new ones. “The Luminous Dead” by Caitlin Starling pairs well with the “Alien” franchise, both being about blue-collar women using powersuits to finagle issues with horrifying aliens.

“The House in the Dark of the Woods” by Laird Hunt and “The VVitch” are both horror stories set in colonial New England, and take colonial superstitions seriously to a degree.

EDIT 4- “Grunt” by Mary Roach is a nonfiction about the technology used on individuals in the military, “Generation Kill” by Evan Wright is about the second gulf war, focusing on the physical indignities and daily life of the invading marines.
