When I was a little girl in the 1990s, I used to fall asleep to an audio recording of The Nutcracker. No matter what time of year, whenever I felt stressed I would pull this cassette out, put it in my Walkman, and fall asleep to it.
It was an updated version of E.T.A Hoffman’s, The Nutcracker and the Mouse King.
The closest audio version I can find was read by Clair Bloom. It’s very similar in style and execution. But it is not the voice I know from my childhood.
I’m wondering if it is this?

THE NUTCRACKER
Retold by Veronica Tennant
But I can’t find a copy of it anywhere.
Any ideas of how I can find this? It was originally on a cassette tape. Front picture was a green vignette, with a lady sitting by a fireplace or sitting by a Christmas tree with the book.. I think she had dark hair…
