I’m not sure what category these both would fit into but I’d describe them as minimalist and nihilistic. The characters feel crushed by despair and react pretty numbly to the events and people that surround them. I’m aware of Dazais other work but it’s all incredibly short and I’ve read American Psycho which I didn’t care for as much so I’m hoping to find a new author. Cormac McCarthy is a writer I would consider in this same sort of category although I’m not a huge fan of his prose at times. I’m also not looking for anything that’s shocking in the sense that it features a heavy amount of violence, gore, SA, etc.,
Thanks
