I’ve read 56 books this year, but I want to get better at thinking about the symbolism and the art of what’s on the page, rather than just being entertained by the story. I had an idea to pick 10 or so books (no less than 5, no more than 12) and read them over and over again for an entire year, and see what I can learn. Ideally I’ll also get used copies I can mark up with a pencil.
I’d prefer to read more classics. I’m reading Anna Karenina right now and really enjoying it, but they are not required to be classics. I’m planning on including Shogun on the list, because I kindof lost the plot about halfway through and didn’t really understand why anything that was happening was happening.
Anything you think has depth I can really sink my teeth into in terms of analysis.
