I don’t think I have every encountered a literary character that I have disliked more than Arthur Huntingdon from Anne Brontë’s ‘*The Tenant of Wildfell Hall*’. He constantly made me so angry, the scene in which he destroyed Helen’s art was so infuriating and I was so angry when she went back to him after his illness that I nearly gave up on the book.
Walter Hargrave was almost as irritating as Mr. Huntingdon. He is a very good example of a literary ‘nice guy’, completely with his extreme bitterness over Helen’s rejection of him.
It may not seem like it, but I actually really enjoyed ‘*The Tenant of Wildfell Hall*’ in the end and would definitly recommend it to anyone who wants to read it.
