Honestly, I’m more aware of the structure from the musical by now then the book, which really does this as an important plot device, even having the future person slipping into place of their younger self at a key moment, so she’s completely aware of what’s already happened, but also so desperate to change it and for it to be different. It’s the graphic novel memoir by Alison Bechdal. (For clarification, on stage she is played by three actors one at around 9-10, another at 18-19 and the 40 year old looking back on the events as they are happening, and in one case assuming the identity of herself as the 40 year old, but reliving that experience)

Ops, literally forgot to give the name- Fun Home!

[Belonging](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/38531325) by Nora Krug fits what you are looking for! A German lady looks into her family’s background during Nazi Germany as all 4 grandparents lived through it. The book has illustrations as well as pictures of what she finds in archives and in family picture books. I really enjoyed reading it. The way she processes German history is well done.

The rice mother by Rani manicka. It’s about the 4th generation descendant of a Indian family in Malaysia discovering the voice recordings and history of her ancestors. It’s pretty sad tho
