So my 86 year old grandma and I have had this two person book club since COVID began and I moved far from her state. She was a former English teacher and loves to read, same as me. Some of the books we’ve read together in the last few years have included:
– Letters to a Young Poet, Rilke
– The Book Thief, Markus Zusak
– The Nightingale, Kristin Hannah
– All the Light We Cannot See, Anthony Doerr
– Divine Rivals, Rebecca Ross
But this October I am surprising her with a visit and wanted to bring a few books along! She loves historical fiction, is interested in light fantasy, and loves reading “new curriculum” books that are being studied in school. Any suggestions as to what books I should bring for our next read?
Thanks in advance 🤍

I love All the Light We Cannot See and The Nightingale! More historical fiction I enjoyed:
The Rose Code by Kate Quinn
Pope Joan by Donna Woolfolk Cross
The Red Tent by Anita Diamant
Code Name Helene by Ariel Lawhon
The Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane by Lisa See (or anything by Lisa See)
The Bonesetter’s Daughter by Amy Tan
Empress Orchid by Anchee Min
Side note: my mom, a former English teacher, recommended a lot of those books to me so I hope your grandma will love them like we did 🙂
