Any suggestions? He loves complex plots, magic, etc. but he hasn’t read a book in several years. He recently expressed wanting to begin reading again, but I don’t know where to start. He was obsessed with Harry Potter as a kid, loved LOTR, and a few years ago he read a Star Wars book. Loves Star Wars, Marvel, GOT, etc.

Mistborn book series
The golden compass, whatever series those are part of, is very good and readable as an adult. Whimsy turns to dark plot and drama, it has scientific magic, people die. Highly recommended.
