I’ve noticed some major similarities between these two and it’s quite obvious Rebecca Yarros is trying to take ACOTAR and spin it as a different story just adding more of a military aspect and dragons. The similarities I have found that sort of put me off are:

    – Xaden’s power is working with shadows.
    – Xaden and Violent can mind read.
    – There was a specific scene where Xaden kneeled in front of Violet and he asked her if she liked seeing him kneel which is basically right out of the second book of the ACOTAR series…
    – A very small similarity is that Violet has two siblings just like Feyre did.

I will continue reading Fourth Wing because I’m already sucked in and I’m curious to see if I can find any other copying that’s being done. Was just wondering if any one else picked up on these annoying similarities as well?

YA, romance, and especially YA/romance are based largely on blatantly building on the previous biggest hit in the genre. See: Hunger Games and the 8000 clones. Even when they’re not blatantly the same they’ll take popular stuff from other works, and ACOTAR probably wasn’t the first.
