After hearing all the suggestions for T Kingfisher, I’d like to read one of her books. Which book should I start with?
Many people on this sub suggest reading the books of T. Kingfisher. None of her books are available at my library so I’ll have to buy one from Amazon. Which book should I start with?
T Kingfisher writes a lot of different kinds of books. I haven’t read a ton, but I have liked what I’ve read.
A Wizard’s Guide to Defensive Baking is kinda a dark YA, with a goofy sense of humor and a lot of heart.
Nettle and Bone is a dark fairy tale, it’s straight down the middle, but very well executed.
What Moves the Dead is straight up horror.

I think Swordheart is the best entry point for her non-horror books. It’s a good introduction to the World of the White Rat, and it’s hilarious. Nettle and Bone is extremely good as well, but it definitely has a lot of darker themes. I would not necessarily start with Wizard’s Guide to Defensive Baking – while it is delightful, it has a much younger feel.
I’ve not read her horror books, so I can’t speak to those.

I would say it depends on what you’re interested in!
Horror? The Hollow Places is a good start!
Fairy tale like fantasy? Thornhedge or Nettle and Bone
Romantic fantasy? The Saint of Steel Series
Short stories? Jackalope Wives and Other Stories

I’m currently reading her ‘House with good bones’. Have to be honest, not liking it so far.

I feel like the Clocktaur war duology is a good start. The Wonder Engine and Clockwork boy.

Nettle & Bone has been my favorite of hers!

The Saint of Steel is nice for romantasy with an interesting world, more realistic characters, and it’s not overdone like some 500+ page options out there.
