I am looking for any mystery set in Alaska or similar places (cold, isolated)

I am ok if it is not a genre mystery but has such elements. Basically ok with anything atmospheric, haunting, mysterious.

The Overnight Guest by Heather Gudenkauf is set in Iowa in the middle of a snowstorm.

    2. For an iconic mystery that combines a sharp detective with the atmospheric fog of London, I always recommend ‘The Hound of the Baskervilles’ by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Sherlock Holmes’ investigation into the legend of a fearsome hound is both thrilling and intellectually engaging.

I just started reading Snowblind by Ragnar Jonasson. While the setting isn’t in Alaska, it is in a small community in Iceland, close to the Arctic Circle.

    4. This may not fit your criteria, but Into the Wild is definitely haunting and a ton of the story takes place in Alaska. Like all Krakauer books, it’s an excellent read!

John Straley’s novels are set in Sitka, Alaska. He’s not the best in the world, but he’s definitely in the hard-boiled rather than cozy mystery mode.

Burial Rites by Hannah Kent takes place in Iceland in the 1800s, and follows the story of the last person executed in the country. It’s not full-on mystery & a lot of it just covers human relationships, but the mystery of why/if she killed the man she’s accused of killing is central to the plot.

To be quite honest, I didn’t care for the plot a ton, but the wintery farmstead vibes are sooooo good.
