I’m outlining a story that takes a critical look at religion and am looking for some literary books that have similar themes. I’m currently finishing up the Gospel According to Jesus Christ, which I think does a good job retelling the gospels but really makes Jesus flawed and the “god” of the story vengeful and bloodthirsty. And now that I’m finishing this up and looking for another book for inspiration, I am open to suggestions.
I’m big into nonfiction books like The God Delusion and God is Not Great, but I’m looking specifically for fiction that is high-brow, complicated, and very literary in its prose.
