i have to write a bunch of essays/short stories over the next week for my finals and i’ve really been craving a short read to propel me through it. i’m a lit/creative writing major and so ideally i’d like something i can draw some inspiration from. in terms of genre, i’m open to really anything as long as it’s not too demanding (as in it won’t require me to work excessively to make sense of it), well-written and honestly just fun. that being said i tend to enjoy sci-fi, horror, comedy, and literary fiction.

“Different Seasons”
This collection includes novellas like “Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption,” “Apt Pupil,” and “The Body” (which inspired the movie “Stand By Me”). These stories explore various themes beyond traditional horror.
Roald Dahl wrote short stories that are really good! Plus it lets you see a darker side of the man who wrote such good children’s stories
Friday Black by Nana Kwame Adjei-Brenyah
I just read Life Ceremony, an anthology of modern Japanese horror stories.
One finals week I read pretty much the entire Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. It was a magical break for me, but wasn’t so good that I couldn’t tear myself away. I know it isn’t high brow and you may be unable to draw inspiration, but it is fun.
_Bellwether_ or the short story collection _Impossible Things_ by Connie Willis.
